The improvement of system damping by grid integration of PV energy sources
Abstract
The impact of static generators on power system small signal stability is evaluated by means of micro-synchrophasors collected in a distribution system using a class A Power Quality recorder that also functions as a Phasor Measurement Unit. Distributed generation of renewable energy could be a possible concern to the traditional power system where inertia of rotating generators is available during system disturbances. Field data is used to demonstrate that large grid-connected photovoltaic energy sources can improve system damping, mitigating some of the concerns on introducing static generation into power systems
