dc.description.abstract | This inaugural address explores the intersection of Industrial Engineering with the
historical context of the Industrial Revolutions, particularly emphasizing the transformative
impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, referred to here as the Fourth
Industrial Evolution. As a Professor in the School of Industrial Engineering at North-
West University, the author positions the discourse within the academic framework,
aligning with the institution’s mission and guidelines for inaugural addresses.
The paper systematically traces the roots of Industrial Engineering to the First
Industrial Revolution, demonstrating its evolution through subsequent revolutions. By
analyzing each revolution’s influence on resources, processes, and organizations, the
narrative unveils the profound role of Industrial Engineering in optimizing complex
systems. The exploration extends beyond traditional definitions, encapsulating the
