N EXPERIMENTAL EVALUATION OF THE ULTRA FREQUENCY ACCELERATION BALLISTOCARDIOGRAM THE RAT An indirect method that can be used for the evaluation of cardiovascular changes in man and small animals can be of great use in supplying knowledge about nutritional, metabolic and genetic aspects of the cardiovascular system. Ballistocardiography is an indirect method that might be suitable. Ballistocardiography is a record of the time derivatives of the movements of the body in various directions caused by the shifts in the centre mass of the blood with contraction of the heart. In this study the longitudinal acceleration ballistocardiogram of the rat is recorded. The aim of this study was to determine whether the ballistocardiogram could be used for evaluation of cardiovascular changes in longterm studies and also to determine if the binding of the heart to the chest wall has any influence on the ballistocardiogram. It has been pointed out that the ballistocardiogram cannot be optimally calibrated. ...en_US
